Belfast e-Science (BeSC) is the group name for the R&D grants held by Professor Ron Perrott (Principal Investigator) and Dr Terry Harmer (co-Principal Investigator). The group evolved from the regional e-Science centre grants held by Ron Perrott and Terry Harmer. Belfast e-Science have been a leading group within the UK e-Science programme since 2002.

Belfast e-Science plays a significant regional, national and international role in disseminating knowledge and experience of multidisciplinary Research and Business enabled by e-Science technologies including Web Services, SOA and Cloud/Utility Computing. Under the leadership of Ron Perrott and Terry Harmer the Belfast e-Science group has developed a forward looking, novel and innovative view of e-Research with a unique portfolio of partners and projects.  Our core application areas include:
 

Digital Media

Media Service Clouds. Publication and distribution of digital media content. Next generation set to box technology. more
 

Financial Services

Cloud-based Risk Management service provision. Compliance and high-throughput trading environments. Quantitative Finance. more
 

Life Sciences

Virtual Bioinformatics Laboratory. Collaborative discovery. Distributed large-scale data and application integration.
 

e-Infrastructure Management

Universal management of cloud-based Compute and data. Automated Service deployment. Management integration.
 
 
The Centre’s strategic vision is to enable a dynamic e-infrastructure of resources, tools and applications that is a key enabler for Research, Industry and Commerce

The ongoing research at BeSC investigates secure, integrated, open and easy-to-use high-level mechanisms to allow users (application users, e-scientists, e-administrators, e-developers) to manage the lifecycle of their applications and services deployed within heterogeneous dynamic e-Research infrastructures.
